Scouting & Draft Playbook

How strategy ties into data.

Scouting inputs

  • TBA/Statbotics, objective/subjective scouting, pit notes.

Match strategy template

  • Roles, auto plans, defense/offense toggles, contingency.

Draft prep

  • Ranking model, pick lists, do-not-pick, synergy notes.

Post-event review

  • What worked, what broke, what to change next event.

Instructions (numbered)

  1. Define data sources: TBA/Statbotics + objective/subjective scouting + pit notes.
  2. Build match strategy template (roles, auto, defense/offense, contingencies).
  3. Draft prep: set ranking model, build pick lists, DNP list, synergy notes.
  4. Run post-event review: what worked/broke; adjust model and lists.

Best practices

  • Normalize data before ranking; cross-check subjective vs objective.
  • Keep a “safe” strategy when data uncertain; communicate clearly to drive team.
  • Update pick lists continuously during events.

Common mistakes

  • Overfitting to small samples; ignoring reliability and fouls.
  • DNP without clear rationale; missing synergy considerations.

Checklist

  • Data sources defined and collected
  • Match strategy template filled per match
  • Ranking model and pick/DNP lists ready
  • Post-event review logged; model updated

Recommended tools

  • TBA/Statbotics, spreadsheet or scouting app, visualization of trends.
