Week 3: Integration and Tuning

Schedule constraint: Mon/Wed/Thu 2:30–6:00 pm (~10.5 hrs).

Goals

  • CAD frozen; wiring checked against plan.
  • L2 climb repeatable on robot (>=90%).
  • Autos integrated with hub-state data; 80% success across 10 runs.
  • Driver practice with shift timer and hoard/burst pattern.
  • Auto validation sheet (10 runs, pass/fail, notes) filled.
  • Climb repeatability sheet filled.
  • Driver drill script (shift-timer drills) used.

Plan & time budget (ETA ~10.5 hrs, Thu as buffer)

  • 2.0h: CAD freeze review; wiring inspection (PD/radio/breakers).
  • 2.0h: L2 climb on robot; 10 attempts, log current/time, tune.
  • 1.5h: Autos integration test (fuel+L1, fuel-only); 10 runs each.
  • 1.0h: Driver practice with shift timer cues; video + notes.
  • 0.5h: Debrief and doc updates.

Checklist

  • CAD release posted and frozen
  • Wiring check complete; PD/radio per rules
  • L2 climb 9/10 success on robot
  • Autos 8/10 success with hub-state data
  • Driver practice logged with shift-timer use
  • Auto validation sheet completed
  • Climb repeatability sheet completed
  • Driver drill script executed
  • Risks/dependencies updated

Owners

  • CAD Lead: freeze
  • Electrical Lead: wiring check
  • Software Lead: autos integration
  • Drive Coach: practice session

Risks and mitigations

  • Risk: Auto drift. Mitigation: odometry reset, slow speeds, retune FF/drive PID.
  • Risk: Climb repeatability. Mitigation: add hard stops, tweak ramp/current limits.

Priorities (P0 must, P1 should, P2 stretch)

  • P0: CAD frozen; wiring check; L2 climb 9/10; autos 8/10; driver drill with shift timer.
  • P1: Auto validation sheet; climb repeatability sheet; driver drill script executed.
  • P2: Start tuning any L3/climb stretch goals cautiously.

Time tracking tips

  • Time autos per run; log pass/fail quickly; avoid more than 10 runs per block without adjustments.
  • Track climb attempts count; stop after 10 and analyze before more.

Tips for students

  • Reset odometry carefully before each auto run; be consistent on starting pose.
  • Capture video for every climb attempt; note what changed between runs.

Tips for mentors

  • Focus on reducing variables: slow down autos if drift appears; simplify routes.
  • After 10 tests, enforce a review break to adjust PID/FF instead of brute-forcing.
